I bought a vintage Raymond Weil watch off Ebay. It's more than 30 years old, and I would never have been able to afford it when it was new. I absolutely love it. However, it keeps stopping even with the brand new battery I had installed. I tap it once or twice and it goes again and then it stops a day or so later. The jeweler who installed the battery said it could cost me $150 to get it repaired, which is twice what I paid for it. Does anyone know of a good watchmaker who would cost less than an arm and a leg?

I second The Little Watch Shop. They're repaired several for us and were always reasonable.

Check out Watch & Gold in Willowbrook mall. Had my Raymond Weil repaired there. It needed to be service just like yours and I believe it was around $80.00/ It's a mom and pop store but I trust them. They've been there for a while. I believe they have another location in Woodlands mall.

Just out of curiosity, what did they say that they did for $13.50? What did they say was wrong with it?

They said they checked the electrics and said they were fine, but the mechanics were not. They moved a wheel that was out of alignment. When I asked how much I owed he said he would charge me for what they charge for a battery replacement. I may ultimately have to get a full service done, which apparently is $160--a price another guy in a jeweler's also quoted. I will still be ahead on cost if it all works out. Raymond Weil is not a cheap brand.

By the way, they are on Shepherd and Waugh.
