Dim sum defined. Yum cha defined. Pictures:

I use the word "dive" because as a transplanted New Yorker, I'm not used to paying $4 a plate for dim sum. The discounted rates in NYC are running $1.50 to $2 a plate.

There are fast food Dim Sum places all up & down Bellaire in Chinatown. One newer one is off of the W. Sam Houston Parkway @ Bellaire in that new Asian strip mall.

Chicken feet is the bomb! Kim Son on Bellaire makes it the best. The meat is tender & falls right off the bone.

We like dim sum at Fung's Kitchen at 59 and Bellaire. We also like it at Jade Garden, a restaurant located in the strip mall next to Well-Farm on Hwy 6 in Sugarland. Another good place is China Cuisine, next to the Golden Foods grocery store on Bellaire at the tollway. Don't take it from me, those recommendations come from Wendy, who is a native-born Hong Kong girl.

Fung's is good. Kimson only on weekend mornings. Lucky Dragon is a safe choice anytime of the day.

New Golden Palace on Bellaire at Gessner is very good, but you have to get there around 11am on Sat or Sun morning, otherwise the wait is horrible.

Kim Son on Bellaire at Turtlewood also has very good dim sum, and service is super friendly and fast too.

Golden Palace is fine. Ocean Palace I've heard some pretty nasty rumors.
