You are wrong. They do routinely enforce deed restrictions which is the main responsibility of any HOA. They also host tons of community events and fundraise for the private neighborhood security. The HOA here is actually way more active then the one we had in the suburbs.

Garden Oaks on the other hand has had a lot of HOA drama: Garden Oaks homeowners group challenged in state court - Houston Chronicle

Basically the same board was in power forever and was allowing its members/friends to circumvent deed restrictions so when they denied a home owner a change they had allowed themselves he sued. I couldn't find the most recent article but the HOA board did lose the suit and from what I recall has to pay the home owner almost 100k and I think the board will be dissolved and COH will enforce deed restrictions there.

Ok cool. Good to know. Just moved in 3 weeks ago. Got conflicting info from different people.

No worries. If you email the HOA and let them know you are a new resident I think they have a welcome packet with neighborhood info they will give you.
