We are a conservative LDS family possibly moving to Houston with 2 small kids. I need a safe family friendly neighborhood. Pricing and all that don't matter right now, I just need to know where to start looking. I would really like a small town within an hour commute to down town Houston. Does this exist?

New Caney is a small town on Hwy 59 and it would be a 1 hour drive to downtown if you don't live too far from the highway.

I think you could comfortably live in a Houston suburb b/c many are w/in 30 min. to the city but are so large and developed you'll feel like you're in a small town. Katy, The Woodlands, Sugar Land and Kingwood are the four large suburbs dotting the four corners of Houston. Home prices are good for the size of home that you get and the schools are all decent. They're good communities that are within a good distance of the city so that you are close enough for sporting events, the theater and what not but far enough to not have to live in the hype all the time.
