cars.com and autotrader.com are big players (in terms of numbers of listings) in the Northeast, but appear to be practically dead in Houston, based on the tiny numbers of vehicles listed by private sellers.

Texas direct has a great selection, but I would not complete the sale outside of ebay with them. They sell a ton of cars and dont have the time to hold your hand like a standard dealer. As a result, people report bad customer service issues a lot. I dont know if they deserve it or not, but feedback is powerful on ebay, so i would complete the sale on ebay, but not review the purchase until everything is done.

If you're a masochist.

Google ripoffreport+texas direct.

Have no personal axe to grind but when I came here I looked very carefully at all the options and the amount of bad press that texasdirect got and the TYPE of bad press convinced me never to buy anything off them.

Of course there are always going to be disgruntled buyers but when there are so many reports stretching back over a long period of time about one place it's reasonable to draw a negative conclusion.

Craigslist, ebay or if you're buying an enthusiasts car then a website dedicated to them is where I would look.
