According to this chart (http://www.dallasnews.com/s/dws/spe/2004/dallas/graphics/8_balancesheet.pdf - broken link), Houston's economy is more diverse than both that of Dallas and Austin...

The chart is only for the city of Dallas, not for all of dfw. Given that alot of dfws activity is also outside of Dallas, it would be important to see all of it.

Wouldn't it be best to search for a job in both places and see what you can land? Perhaps the decision should be based on the living you can make.

I agree. This should really be based on where you get your job.

If you have equal offers in both places, visit both. Spend a couple of days in each and go from there.

I already have a job.... it involves a lot of travelling within US..(Almost every week for both me and my wife)... Thats y we are inclined towards moving in Texas because of its central location... I intend sticking around with this job for a year or two.... But eventually would have to settle down...

If thats the case, I would visit both places for 2-3 days. See which one you like the best.

In Dallas check out Richardson, Irving, and Plano.
In Houston, check out Sugarland and Southwest Houston.

I am from California and I have lived in both Dallas and Houston. I enjoy the vibe of Houston and I didn't care for Dallas. But honestly, your standard of living will be so much better in either city than it would be for the same price in California, there really isn't a bad answer. Visit both cities and see what you think.

I live in Sugar Land and I really like it. Check it out when you visit.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions... It really helps to make decision... If you had to chose between Irving, Richardson and Plano..... which neighborhood is the best? Any views on Fort Worth?

Cinco is another area worth considering. People who like Cinco prefer it over Sugar Land - and there are those that prefer Sugar Land. You might want to visit both areas.
