I will be working in Galleria area. Child will be attending AWTY, which is not too far from my office.

Price range for a house is 240,000-300,000.

How long would the commute be from Katy, Sugarland?

Are there any other good areas/neighborhoods closer to the Galleria area in which I can find housing in this price range? Would like 2100-2300 square feet. Don't want a Townhouse. Do any of these areas have a Lifetime Fitness?

Thanks!

I live in Sugar land and my girlfriend works in the galleria area an the commute can be anywhere from 25-45 mins, depending on traffic. We belong to lifetime in Sugar Land and love the place. You will be able to find a house your looking for too, you may even be able to find a newer house in Telfair, but it would be near the top of your price range.

Thanks for the help...Is the commute from Katy substantially longer?

I think the commute from Katy is pretty close to the same, during rush hour it's 45 minutes from either Sugarland or Katy. My husband works in the Galleria as well, we're in Katy. There is a Lifetime Fitness here as well. Commute might be slightly better from Sugarland but you get more house for the money in Katy, so it's a priority thing.

You should try looking into CityCentre. They have a Lifetime Fitness on site: CITYCENTRE

Not sure if it's in your price range though, but it's a great place to live.

As far as commute, Sugar Land will have a shorter commute than Katy, only if you're taking I-10 into the Galleria. The Westpark Tollway is faster.

Thanks for your input...What would be the commute if you left Katy or Sugarland, at say, 6:30 AM every morning?

Don't forget that from Katy or anywhere to the West you're driving into the sun both ways. Might think about trying the commute once or twice, on a sunny day, and from inside the subdivision you're thinking about (don't just start the timing from the freeway - do a door-to-door test), before making a permanent decision. Enjoy!

For accurate estimates on commute times, I think we need to know where around the galleria you are going and how far inside a subdivision you are.

The traffic on 610 sucks in rush hour- worse than 59 or I10 for the most part. I live on the west side and it is quicker to go downtown than post oak and 610. But from I10 and BW8 to Post Oak and 610 it is about 25-30 minutes in rush hour. To the western portion of the galleria area (eg Bering and San Felipe) I take Memorial or Westheimer and it is 15-20 minutes.

Given that you are going with Awty, I'd try and get closer to work/school but that's just me. Outside of townhomes you will struggle to find anything too close to the galleria in that price range that doesn't have some drawbacks.
