Hi! My husband has recently taken a job in Houston - I have an 8 year old son with hi-functioning autism. Does anyone have any info on districts that are great for kids with autism and ones to stay away from. We are willing to live up to 60 miles outside of city. I am SOOOO nervous about moving and not knowing anything . . . help

Khmerboys,
I was talking with a friend just yesterday who told me of Katy Indpendent School District having an excellent program. My friend is a Katy, Texas business owner who is very active in the community. In fact, he said that he was working with a couple of Judges that commute to downtown Houston daily so their children can have the advantage of the Katy school programs. Katy is a Houston suburb and an excellent place to raise a family. Go to their website, click on Quick Links (top right), drop down to Special Ed, and then click on Parent to Parent. There you will find parents who have provided their email address' so that they can talk about their experience(s) with other parents. The director of Special Education is Fred Shafer at 281 396-2630. Hope this helps.

There's whole thread on it. You don't have to move 60 miles out.

Is private school not an option at all? I currently work as a teacher at a private school that specializes in children with language and learning delays, including Autism. PM me.

Default Need to find public autism school in Houston

Hi,
We plan to move to Houston end Aug. I have an 13 year old son with low-functioning autism. Does anyone have any information on districts that have public schools are great for kids with autism. And also we are looking for a place to stay. Does anyone have any information on great apartment/home with lowest possible rent within that districts. Thanks.
