If you are given a choice where will you send your child? The Village School or Awty? Why and Why not? Which school do you think can get you to a reputable university?

I wouldn't be asking the same question if I found the answer to the 2 schools I'm comparing in the search button.

No school "gets you in" a good college. Good schools give you the basis to get into a good college.

It's all grades, scores, essays, and activities on a personal achievement basis.

Now if any school in the Houston area actually had "pull" it would be St. John's. If any school had "pull" for UT, it would be Strake. A lot of "pull" is usually donations.

As to THOSE two schools, Awty's High School has been around a lot longer and is more centrally location. The Village School is pretty isolated for a Houston private school, and their High School is brand spanking new. Now, which school would have more "pull" if there was such a thing? One that has been around for a while, made connections or the brand new one?

The teacher is had for physics at The Woodlands high school moved to Awty the year after I graduated. He was one of the most influential in shaping my view on learning and what it means to be "educated". While being in his class didn't get me into Texas A&M for my B.S. and Rice for my Ph.D., the application of what i learned from him didn't hurt. From what i've heard the rest of the faculty at Awty is on par with him, so that would earn a ringing endorsement from me.

I know nothing of the village school.

Wow.. thanks for the inputs it really helps. It's exactly what I'm looking for. Keep them coming. Really appreciate it, this forum helps families like us who are new to Houston. I heard St John is the best but they have a 2 year waiting period. I was even told to send an application for my 2 year old for their Kindergarten 3 years from now.

I live near The Village School. It always seems crowded. The kids wear uniforms.

I applied to St. John's when my daughter was one. She finally got in this year (grade 9). No legacy. SAT scores of 1540 at age 11 and 4.o average with a lot of extracurricular activities got her in.

The village school is a great school and is basically the St. Johns of West Houston. It now has a HS. I dont know if AWTY has a HS.
