Hmm...for steaks, My wife and I like a lot of them, all good and all slightly different. Sullivan's, Taste of Texas, Morton's, Ruth's Chris, and of course, Killen's, which is about a mile from my house, so it wins the convenience award for spectacular beef without driving across town.

Mexican: El Jardin on Harrisburg, Lupe Tortillas for beef fajitas, Ninfa's on Navigation

Italian: Josephine's on Caroline

Others that we frequent are

Jennie's Noodle House
Don Carlos
Pei Wei
No Name Barbecue
FA Dining (Home cooking / soul food...depending on what's cooking that day)

And I know it makes my palate suspect, but I still love the occasional artery clogging Ultimate Cheeseburger from JITB...and a couple of tacos...

Still miss Tookies in Seabrook....

Mark's provides the best overall quality for the price point coupled with really great, responsive but non-intrusive service.

We no longer live in Houston, our fav places are:

1. Ibiza (great food, Champagne has the least mark up in any high end restaurants I've ever seen);
2. Barnaby's (great tuna burger)

Whoever said Houston is all fast food and big name chains with mediocre food hasn't looked hard enough, although I love my fast food and chains here are my favorite unique family owned restaurants:

Lucio's! (on Taft just south of Allen Parkway) Is a tiny restaurant with an intimate feel and very upscale flavor, extra unique. However, you must make reservation its a small place and the owner does not want to expand, the food there is AMAZING as well as the service (a little pricey $30 -/+) but defintely worth it. It's also BYOW as in bring your own wine! You show up with your own bottle of wine they put it on ice for you if necessary and charge you 5 dollars to un cork it. Defintely give it a try wether its with a few friends or for a romantic night, its also nice to walk over to the bayou or through the immediate residential streets in the area when the weather is nice.

Others are

Epicure Cafe (on West Grey)
Niko Niko (on Montrose)
Blue Fish (on Richmond)
Gravitas (on Taft)
Nidda Thai (on Westheimer)... the list goes on but these are my favorites

and of course the typical chains such as Cafe Express, Pappas BBQ and so on..

Now that I'm starving.... I hope you enjoy!
