I live in Cy-fair area. Harris County Appraisal District appraised my property tax value at 273,000 for 2010 (It was 249,000 in 2009).

I protested and proposed that the appraisal value for 2010 be $254,000. HCAD made an online settlement offer at $262,000.

I still feel $262,000 is an overestimate of the market value of my home. My home was bought in early 2008 for $259,000. But similar new homes were sold below $250,000 in my community recently.

Could anyone with similar experience shed some light on whether it is a good idea to reject HCAD offer and go for a formal hearing?

Do not accept that offer, you should be able to get the Appraisal lower than your purchase price

I'm curious if you accepted or rejected the offer. If you rejected it, what was the outcome? I protested my taxes, with similar #'s and they proposed a settlement. I still feel it is too high. Just curious what my options are (and how successful I might be if I pursue it).

Since the last time he posted on CD was seven years ago, don't hold your breath.
