I thought the Black population in Houston's metro is growing in Fort Bend County given the fact that over 20% of the county's population is Black and the county has a fast growing African population. Also, I thought that DFW was more segregated than Houston, with Blacks being in the South and whites, etc. being in the North. I figured that everywhere throughout the Houston metro, every race moved to and was more spreaded out making Houston a diversed metro and making it have a community that wasn't overwhelmingly one race majority.

Fort Bend county gained 32,757 in that same time period. Harris county gained just under 100,000 in the same.

I think what youre confused about is that people in Houston (or anywhere) move places just for diversity or to make a place more diverse. Metro Houston is still more diverse of course, but recent growth patterns suggest that DFW is diversifying faster with African-Americans and Asians, while Houston is diversifying faster with White and Hispanic residents.

According to the Brookings institute re: Houston Demographics & Overall quality of like - Houston has added 743k residents since 2005....418k Black, the majority after Katrina from 2005-2007, 251k Hispanic, 78k white, 32k Asian -- In 2010 the Quality of Life report: Major Markets index- published by the Bizjournals & portfolios.com - Out of the largest 67 MSA's, Dallas #29 ranked around the middle and Houston #47 was pretty low on the food chain regarding overall quality of life - Market analysis based on --Educated work force, Drive time commute, Home vacancies, poverty, income, home values, walk to work, adults 25-44 ,weather etc ---surprised Dallas rated so much higher than Houston?

Your numbers are strange, particularly for Asians.

How is that when Houston received more Blacks. I could understand DFW with Asians, but not Houston with the Blacks.

A&M Bulldawg should have his own random questions thread, where other posters can chime in and answer his questions.

Its because of where they moved, not how much of them came. The African-American and Asian growth was concentrated in a fewer areas over the metro area vs. DFW. The same is true with Hispanics and Whites in DFW vs. Houston. Whites in DFW are fleeing Dallas and Dallas county like bats out of hell, and moving into the other counties. They spread out more in the recent years in Houston vs. DFW.
