We are looking for better high school and need help from you!
What difference between Bellaire High School and Clements High School?
I prefer Bellaire high and my husband prefer Clements high.
My daughter is going to 9th grade this summer. I've heard AP class in Bellaire is great. What about other class?
I'd appreciate your advice!

Both are excellent, you can't go wrong with either one.

wow, never seen this comparison before. I'm interested in the responses.

MHO, both are good and it just depends on where your employment is really. Usually when someone can afford to live in areas zoned to Bellaire, they choose Bellaire.

Thanks for the quick reply!
People are nice here! I would like to see more responses!

PS: my husband works near Galleria. His concern is what if my daughter can't get into Bellaire AP class?

If her grades and testing qualify her, she'll get in. There're aren't set number of spaces for AP.

If her grades/testing don't qualify her for AP at Bellaire, they won't at Clements either.

If you need to do main stream classes and are worried about social dynamics in Bellaire, then I would opt for Memorial High School. It ranks up there with Clements, and is a bit higher in rank than Bellaire.

If your daughter can't get into an AP class at a high school that prides itself of AP admissions, she will be a second class student. This is true at Memorial, Clements, Lamar etc. These schools do not placate to the average.

Default Our story

Have no clue where Clements HS is, but some years ago when our daughter was entering HS and we were being transferred to Houston, my wife spent 6 months researching Houston Metro high schools, narrowing it down to six that met our requirements on paper. Those six we personally visited, speaking with staff, sitting in the hall during class changes, looking at the types of cars in the parking lot, and discussing the courses of study. Based on what our daughter needed (flexible coursework because daughter had already finished some HS math courses by end of 8th grade, strong theatre department, multicultural demographics and wide range of socio-economic families [translation: I wasn't buying her a BMW for her 16th birthday - she got a used Saturn]), we selected Bellaire. That was tough decision for wife because it meant buying an older home in zone rather than new home in suburb (I made it up to her with a new home later ). Kudos to her for doing right thing for daughter. Ended up being a home run for us as daughter said going to Bellaire was best thing that happened to her. YOUR MILAGE WILL VARY. This is simply our story fwiw.

I agree "If her grades/testing don't qualify her for AP at Bellaire, they won't at Clements either."

Her grades are good...now she is in GT. What she should prepare for applying AP at Bellaire? Anything we can do?
Thanks in advance!

Unless she excels is some sport or extra-curricular activity.

Just sayin'...

i would call the school registrar and ask her, instead of this motley crew.

But I'm pretty sure AP doesn't start until 10th grade. Honors Classes are in place in 9th. Depending on how they do in 9th, then they will be moved up and on. At least that's what I recall for the public school requirements.
