Richmond isn't that close to downtown Houston. We could help more if we knew your house budget and size needed. Are you working downtown?

That is going to make for a sizable commute.

Probably a lot longer than you would want it to be.

These guys and gals need to know what size house you want.

I'm in the area, when I drive my MIL downtown takes about 35-45 min or longer depending on the traffic.
check out waterside, long meadow farms, fieldstone communities

If you live in Richmond and work downtown, you will be better off taking the Park and Ride at W. Bellfort/59s into downtown during the morning. The 265 W.Bellfort bus should be the one for you!

Any particular reason you picked Richmond? I mean, it's a very nice area and I like it out there, but it is on the far fringe of "Houston". $300k will buy you a nice house much closer to downtown, but you're leaving out a lot of details (as someone above indicated).

Schools important? Yes? No? Size of house required? Age of house required? I mean, my area is way under $300k, but the houses are 2500 square feet and built in the 1970's; 4 bedrooms, 3 baths, 2 car garage. It's a very nice neighborhood, I love it---but maybe not big enough/grand enough/new enough for you?

My nephew and his wife and daughter live in a gorgeous home in Sienna Plantation, very kid-friendly, and their house was about that. He's in sales, works all over; she's in the Medical Center and it's a straight shot down the Ft. Bend Toll/288 for both.

If it's just a couple, no kids, no dogs, you could buy a condo in Rice-Military or Montrose for that and be 5 minutes from downtown and all the nightlife.

If you're a young couple with 6 kids and need lots of space, maybe Richmond is the right place.

Or, if you need horses, maybe Richmond is too close in? Maybe go a bit further out in the country and get acreage (and understand your commute times)?

Or, you could live in Clear Lake and have beautiful views with easy access to the Gulf for about the same commute.

Or you could live in Kingwood, straight shot down 59 to downtown (less traffic), and you would be living in a beautiful East Texas pine forest.

It totally depends on what you want.

Malvie is right. So many people post here saying basically "Moving to Houston - where should we live?" without giving any details. It is a huge city - and people live in different parts of it based on lifestyle and needs and budget. For some, it's a bigger house with a long commute - and it's worth it. Others would prefer a smaller place for a shorter commute.
