Yes, I hated it when I heard they were switching to the Seattle Mariners from the Pirates for the upcoming years (I don't know how long their contract is for Seattle).
In Charleston's case, I don't think the affiliate status will make much difference. They weren't close enough to Pittsburgh for a real linkage in any event. Aren't the Cincy Reds the most popular team in that area? It's different up here. A lot of our folks actually attend a lot of Pirates games.
The Reds are very big in Huntington. A lot of people from here go to Reds games. That’s why the Reds Caravan stops here each year and they actually have a Huntington day every once in a while at a Reds game. They are having one this year and Mayor Williams is throwing out the opening pitch.
The teams in Charleston have had a lot of MLB affiliations over the years. White Sox, Tigers, Senators (now the Twins), Astros, Rangers, Indians (twice), Cubs, Reds, Royals, Blue Jays, Brewers, Pirates (twice), and now the Mariners.
Question for those who know more than I do: Does HMDA pay taxes on their land?

Also during the meeting, Bell said March 31 is the deadline for HMDA to make a decision on purchasing the 27-acre former Ingram Barge property along the Ohio River for $1.9 million. Members agreed to meet sometime between March 13 and March 15 to also discuss purchasing the former 42-acre ACF Industries property.
That seems significant. They must be close to negotiating an option on the ACF property; I hadn't seen anything about that yet.

I've never heard about the tax status of HMDA. Being an extension of the city, I'd imagine that they don't pay taxes. I'm not 100% sure of that.
With regards to ACF, another article mentioned that they were negotiating but that the owner was very hesitant to sell. Hopefully this means that minds are changing.
From this article back in May, it looks like they might coordinate with Tri-State, too. Yeager probably has more opportunities for a diversified curriculum, especially with the ANG there.
