Following negotiations with the Yacht Club, Huntington Municipal Development Authority (HMDA) acquired development rights for $400,000 in past maintenance expenses. The area is now clear for re-development. A riverfront museum or a small aquarium have been mentioned.

I'm anxious to see what else has been proposed.

I agree with Pynball, an aquarium sounds like a better attraction. It would be nice to have one in the area.

An aquarium isn't a bad idea and I too believe it would be a better idea than a riverfront museum.

However, I think the entire riverfront park area would also be a good place for a true outdoor amphitheater/performing space, one that offers covered seating and proper facilities for patrons and artists.

Combine a project like that with a remodel of the flood wall to be invisible/removable in the downtown core area and downtown Huntington has new life and new atmosphere.

Well it already has an amphitheater, but I think that it really needs some work. It would be nice if they revitalized it. I look at Charleston's downtown riverfront amphitheater with envy. Something like that would be sweet!

I despise that floodwall. Downtown would be sooo much better without it. Though rarely ever used, it does serve a good cause. With that said, it looks like they will just paint some murals on it and build something to get over it.

They actually have plans to do a covered stage and improved amphitheater. Charleston's stage was based on the stern wheel or rear of the boat and the drawn up plans made our stage more like the front of a boat. It looked very neat.

They do have plans to at least expand the flood wall openings. I would imagine how much depends on how much funding they get. The invisible flood walls are expensive but with some federal funding, it could happen.

A nice Aquarium downtown would be a good draw. If they do it though, I hope they look for any funding possible to make a top notch aquarium.

The current amphitheater space at the Riverfront needs to be bulldozed and rebuilt from the ground up. However, to me, a new amphitheater doesn't have to be rebuilt in the existing location. The flat land up next to the flood wall could be utilized as well.

That thought was the basis for my idea for suggesting a new true outdoor amphitheater.

For the flat land next to the flood wall, the proposal was to make that area more park like. They want to expand the walking trail there to have a full circle to encourage more frequent use. They did mention adding a new flood wall entrance at 8th Street and putting an additional stage area down there for festivals like X-Fest to be held. This was going to be in addition to the renovated Ampitheater.
