It appears that the deal has completely collapsed for the "Proposed Barboursville Shops" on the piece of property at the corner of West Mall Road and US 60. The property is no longer listed as a project on The Shopping Center Group's (TSG) website and there are now fresh "For Sale" signs on the property. The project always seemed to be on very shaky ground at best with a good deal of confusion. Nonetheless, I would think this property could be a hot spot for development. I think a nice 2-4 story mixed use building would be ideal.
Even with the initial announcement I thought that piece of land just wasn't right for commercial development. The shape is odd, the potential traffic issues seemed high and to be honest it seems that other areas would be better suited for development.

Time will tell.
While there are several outparcels available on the perimeter of the mall (outskirts of the parking lot, the lot beside Comfort Inn, the outparcel of the Lowe's parking lot), these seem to be quite stagnant - have been sitting vacant for years with no signs of moving forward. The only positive sign in quite some time was the construction of Buffalo Wild Wings, but nothing since then. It just amazes me that the mall owner/management has not been able to land a top-notch sit down restaurant to build on the outskirts. The property at the corner of W. Mall Road and US 60, while not ideal in every aspect for development, is one of the only, if not the only piece of property left that's not under control of the Cafaro group (mall owner) and it's the only property that has shown any recent signs of development being possible. The traffic situation would not be ideal but the property would have multiple access points (from West Mall Road and US 60 via Green Tree Road) and given the high volumes of patrons visiting the area, would thrive. I do think having a mixed use component (apartments and luxury apartments on the upper floors) with retail on the ground floor would do very well. But as you said, and with everything else in this area, only time will tell...and unfortunately, that usually ends up being a very very long time.
Write up on new Paradise Donuts in Huntington. They seem to be doing very well and selling out on their opening day. Also they are planning a 2nd location in Milton.
Heard a rumor yesterday that Black Sheep owners are looking at the former Uno's space at Pullman Square. That would be a nice addition down there, especially if it ended up being some type of Brewery.

So they would move away from their current location?

My guess is a lot more foot traffic and parking at Pullman.
