I haven’t heard anything about the Flats property in a while. Hopefully something will be announced soon. As for the Pritchard, it’s definitely at a tipping point. The current owners need to either fix it up now, or just go ahead and tear it down.
In other good renovation news for downtown, it looks like further exterior upgrades are being planned for the Big Sandy Arena:
After watching that video, I like some of the proposed exterior renovations for the arena. Currently, it does look a little plain out in front of the arena and I do remember the original water feature that sat out front for a number of years. However, I hope they don't try to incorporate all of the proposed ideas and elements into the plaza.
Just from what is shown in the video, it looks like the plaza would be too busy and too crowded with all of those elements. Too many new things or obstacles in the way to disrupt the flow to the ticket office, to the front door, etc. I keep thinking it will create unnecessary bottle neck points for the patrons.
As I mentioned, I'd like to see some improvements on the outside, but I'd like to see more money put into improving the inside. The concession areas need upgraded, the restrooms could use some improvements, and just the appearance inside the building needs to be better.
I definitely get what you are saying, that’s a pretty congested area if they do add the entire lawn and garden section from Lowe’s. The flow from the ticket office to the entrance would be a tight fit. And it would have to be navigated like a maze from the intersection to the front doors as well.
I did find it amusing there were kids just walking through the middle of that water feature. Lol
Anybody know a status update on the Ritter Park fountain? Work began in March with an estimated May completion date...I was there yesterday and it looked awful. Here we are in August and it seems that they have quite a bit of work to do...
Huntington is on track to demolish 100 homes this year. Doing so will leave the city with fewer than 100 identified unsafe and dilapidated structures on the unsafe building list. There were over 400 less than 3 years ago. That is some good progress.
