The City of Huntington was awarded 2 Brownfield Cleanup grants totaling $812,590. One was $350,000 for the ACF property to continue redevelopment there. The other was $462,590 for the Pritchard Building. It looks like the Pritchard Building is about to undergo a significant upgrade. Per this news release, the building is about to undergo a $36 million renovation with 90% of that already secured. It is planned to be retail on the bottom and senior assisted housing in the upper floors. That will be a huge project.

Wow, that’s very surprising. I thought for sure you were going to wait they need to raze the Pritchard Bldg. it’s in very poor shape. But, if they can somehow rehab it into a residential high rise, then I say go for it.

For $36 million, they should be able to nearly rebuild the entire building. Here's a little more info from the H-D.

Great news. Glad something is being done with it. So does this mean they are going to start tearing down the ACF building?

I don't think so. It looks like this is more funding for assessment and planning. Some plans done have even tried to incorporate the existing buildings into the new development. What's done with those buildings will likely be determined by the developer that's chosen.

The grant announced Thursday will help conduct an environmental site assessment and develop reuse and cleanup plans for the site, which has sat idle for the past 20 years.

From the article regarding the Prichard Building: "Once it is cleaned, the building will be redeveloped to include commercial business space and a community center space and senior-assisted living spaces on the upper floors."

I was hoping for something more exciting than senior-assisted living for the building. Promoting more downtown living for younger professionals seems like a better plan for long-term livability and downtown recovery.

Even so, I'm glad we should finally see some movement on the building and project.

Hopefully, the redevelopment of the Coal Exchange Building will be geared toward young professionals. If I remember correctly, I think that it supposed to be the case. Downtown redevelopment is definitely heading in the right direction. Hopefully the old Upperclassman lot gets something soon as well. You'd hope Marshall building a brand new business school just down the street will help bring a larger development in that lot too.

I agree, there is plenty of room for continued development downtown. The CXB would be a great addition to downtown residential living, especially for younger professionals.
