I can understand the delay in the paving, but not for signage. The signs costs less and take less time to manufacture and install.

It's good to see that Big Green Properties continues to help with the abandoned housing issue in the city.

I agree. I hope more contractors and property owners will follow their lead.

Mural Project in Central City District.

https://www.herald-dispatch.com/mult...6156cb.html#12

I hope we can see more projects like this across the city. From what I've seen in person, and in pictures, of similar projects in other cities, this type of community artwork can really spruce up the visual aspect of a city. Even if an owner could and would be willing to sell the space on one side of their building for an advertisement, I think that would go a long way to improve the visuals around the city.

The building walls that frame the city parking lot on 4th Avenue next to the Coal Exchange Building would be perfect for a mural project. The same for the side of the Summit Beer Station building, the side of the Keith Albee where The Old Village Roasters sits, the building wall next to the city parking lot at the corner of 4th avenue and 8th street (behind The Market) and the 3rd avenue street level block side wall of the Mountain Health Arena.

As a follow up to my previous post, here's a link to a story, from the Des Moines Iowa newspaper, where they highlighted the many murals around the city.

My favorites are "Cheers from Des Moines", "My heart belongs to Des Moines", "Better together", and the one that looks like a collage with This Must be the Place shown in the picture. I think something similar to those designs would look great in downtown Huntington. It would help spruce up the downtown area.

I’d love to see more murals in Huntington. It’s something that is often discussed but rarely comes to fruition. So much that could be done with the flood wall but it remains blank. Hopefully we see more of a push going forward.

The new signage is up on the Mountain Health Arena. It looks great.

With that said, I've been looking at the arena for a few months now, trying to make up my mind about the new exterior paint color. I don't like it. It really clashes with the drab color of the arena's block walls. I think the exterior should've been painted a darker color as it would blend better with the blocks and stand out against the clouds and sky. A charcoal or gunmetal color would look great, in my opinion.

This project is at Adams Avenue and West 10th Street.

I'm not sure how to phrase this without it sounding like a complaint. We do need to have senior living facilities but it seems like the majority of recent projects, or upcoming projects, are geared toward the senior population. And most likely seniors on fixed incomes. It seems that the city should be promoting more of a housing balance between the demographics. We've seen some development of apartments and condos in the downtown area, but this project, along with the announced plans for the Prichard Building, are for the senior citizen population. Given Huntington's continued population decline, more needs to be done to attract the younger, working population. That's a better approach to help the city reverse the population decline.
