From what I gathered, lots of funding is being secured and multiple plans are being finalized for each plan. The redevelopment of Hal Greer Blvd is supposed to start this summer with some new development there as well. One of the most interesting things I read that I haven’t seen reported on was this:

“The remaining Flint property on the south side of 5th Avenue has been purchased by a private entity for redevelopment.”

Hopefully we see lots of activity in the next few years.

In other news, $1.5 million was just allotted for further demolition.

The mayor delivered his state of the city speech yesterday. It looks like Mayor Williams is going to be as aggressive as he can with his last 4 years. I’m glad to see the city actively pushing and participating in the improvement of our neighborhoods. Hopefully they target rental upkeep as well.

In regards to housing, I hope the city pushes and pursues options to replace the housing that's being torn down, along with looking for developers to build more quality rental properties.

They are doing a new program called Shine where they are working with owner occupied housing to bring it up to code and keep it from falling into disrepair. They are also considering the elimination of building permit fees and more incentives for new construction. Mayor Williams also mentioned completely eliminating the B&O tax as well. Here’s the full text of his speech.

It's wise to address the rundown housing issue with a prevention strategy rather than just being reactive after it's too late.

I noticed today that they’ve started the major renovation of the Pritchard Building! So nice to see this happening.

Per this news article and press release from the city last year, Cornerstone Community Development is starting a $36 million renovation of the building. They are planning to redevelop it to include commercial business space, a community center space and senior-assisted living spaces on the upper floors.
