Looks like the ACF parking lot is about to be sold and redeveloped. If the MU baseball field was step one in this improvement process, this is definitely step two and will likely help propel redevelopment of the north side along even quicker. Lots of great stuff happening in Huntington right now! I’ll have to dig all of the story links up later.
I haven’t seen any list but I’m sure that the city would have them listed through the unsafe building commission. This is great progress though and it would be nice to see what tearing these houses down has done for property values.
Along with the property values, I would like to see how many of the properties have been sold and how many have had a structure built on it since that sale.
It's nice to see hear business leaders voicing frustration and displeasure regarding the lack of not only high-speed internet in the area, but the unreliable service to many. Hopefully they can help lead the charge for improved service.
Here's a story regarding how Chattanooga was able to build and expand their fiber optic service. I think that the Huntington city leaders, along with other prominent business owners and elected officials, could learn a lot about how to make a similar project happen in the area. https://www.vice.com/en/article/ezpk...-fiber-network
Almost moved to Huntington recently. Have lived in Martinsburg and Beckley in the past and wanted to move back to WV. Found its people to be "salt-of-the-earth" type. Liked the accessibility to so many places from Martinsburg. Beckley was more isolated. Saw an online video about Huntington and the opioid crisis and that did it for me. Has Huntington improved from that? Yes, I know that ALL cities have drug problems but is it still as severe as that video depicts?

I don't know what video you saw, but I have relatives and friends that live in Huntington. I've never heard any of them mention the opioid problem. It's there. It's real. Police, EMTs, fire fighters, and ER workers see it and know about it. People working in shelters, food pantries, crisis centers, and counseling services know about it too. The people going to work and taking their kids to soccer practice are not seeing it.
It's PBS and it is dated 2017. Is this an over-dramatization or does it hit home pretty much. Perhaps only in certain areas of the city and not others. The way it is presented, the city is swimming in opioids. That is why I was curious as to whether PBS was over-dramatizing the crisis and if the cities efforts have improved and it is winning the battle. Just the title "A Community Overwhelmed" is telling.
It's still an issue but not like it was a few years ago. Part of that is because of the stricter prescription laws that have been passed over the past 4 to 5 years. A negative consequence to those laws is that they can push an addict to other drugs, like heroin.
