I've been hoping that the arena can land a top name comedian again. The number of shows, and quality, has certainly gotten better over the past few years.
I wasn't sure if this post should go in this thread or the one regarding "How Huntington is seeking to improve", but I decided to post in this one.
I know I've mentioned it before but I still believe that Huntington could benefit from a new dedicated concert/performance venue. One that is designed for a crowd max of say 2k, and a space designed to be flexible yet functional. Many cities have had venues like this built in the last decade or so. Here are two that I think would work well in Huntington.
First, the Mars Music Hall in Huntsville Alabama. The venue is on the campus of the Von Braun Center and just opened. Here is a link to the site that shows the conceptual drawings. https://www.vonbrauncenter.com/expansion/
Second, The Signal in Chattanooga Tennessee. The Signal is more of an open warehouse type of setting as I don't believe they have a balcony like the Mars Music Hall. One thing that I really like about the set-up at The Signal, it is next door to a gaming/recreation restaurant/sports bar that features many TVs, food, bowling, billiards, darts, and many outdoor games. The eating establishment is called Southside Social. https://www.thesouthsidesocial.com/
Also, The Signal and Southside Social are located across the street from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's football stadium. That kind of setup would be great in Huntington, across from the Joan C. Edwards Stadium.
Agree...aeros71. I also think Huntington should start marketing itself as a "Little Nashville/Music City". It's seems as if most of the true country acts come from Eastern Kentucky...which means all of those bands play Huntington...at least one time or another. I think at one point this past year the top two country albums were from artists who regularly played Huntington...and "Ona" the rock band is said to be one of the best up and coming bands in the Nation...it seems Huntington has no problem finding live music...would love to see 4th Ave downtown glow with Neon again...and a little Music circuit set up in...with even some map displays downtown of where all of the music "hotspots" are.
