Currently, I am writing a book on the forgotten past of Huntington and in it I am including a chapter about the rumored tunnel system. These tunnels were used for various things like transportation of goods, bootlegging, smuggling, prostitution, ect. I recently came into knowledge of a tunnel that once existed at or near the riverfront and was used to off load goods from boats back in the day. After the flood of 1913 and 1937 it is doubtful that such a tunnel still exists today. Does anyone have any information regarding said tunnels?

[SIZE=2]I am also requesting anything on the Hazelton Hotel, The Athletic Club, The Milnor Hotel and The Arlington Hotel. These locations operated as gambling parlors and prostitution rings many years ago. I am trying to find out anything at all about these locations and the clientele they may have served.

I've never heard any rumors about a tunnel system in Huntington. The only tunnel I've ever heard rumors about was one under 4th Ave from the Frederick to the Keith Albee for performers etc.

I know who currently owns the blue piano from the Hazelton Hotel that was across from the train station.

I have been in the tunnel that runs under the Frederick, under 4th avenue and to the Keith Albee. There is more though. There is one that runs under 6th avenue between 11th and 12th street. I have been in that one as well. If there are more I am not aware of them but I can ask a good source and find out.

Was a time lot of cities had them often with ultra light rail lines mainly for delivering coal to the more well to do buildings in the city core to cut down on the surface traffic and keep the neighborhood looking nice especially in winter. Then they were expanded officially and un officially for various purposes. Any that survived to the 50's were used as part of the bomb shelter system.
