There is a petition circulating to have College Gameday come to Huntington on November 14 in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Airplane Crash.
If you are interested in signing the petition, you can go here:
How many of you have been to a game on black out day? Have you been to a game on November 14? Have you been to a fountain ceremony? Have you been to one on game day?
I have done all of those things. The plaza in front of the student center will be packed wall to wall with people. Then there will be the usual tailgating at the parking lots. The most notable difference that day will be that there will be a lot of people wearing black. They will still eat, drink, socialize, and have a good time.
There will be a big crowd in the stadium. They want to see how the band and the football team will commemorate the 75 lives this time. Every year, they find something a little different to do. What will the video memory show this year?
But, still, there is a football game to play. ESPN has produced a memory program that is broadcast on one of the channels every year. Gameday is going to be somewhere. It would be nice to see it at Marshall on a special day. The remarks made will be appropriate, and it will be a good day to showcase Marshall.
Do we really want College Gameday here for what may be a 1-8 team (by that time). I'd rather save us the embarrassment until John is gone.
Sadly I am leaning toward agreeing with this. I think probably the best case scenario for our record on November 14th this year will be 4-5. Man it sucks that they are just not going to be good this year.
I also agree. The first 8 games of the season are all tough match ups, before you even consider which ones are on the road.
Regarding the the game on November 14th. I have little doubt that MU won't win given the hype and emotions of the day. The crowd for that game should be decent but there's a good chance a lot of the games will struggle as much as they did this season.
I was just reading the article from my Facebook news feed. One of the ESPN channels will be broadcasting the game, along with all the ceremonies that will be part of it.
The game will be on Saturday, August 29. Both teams are allowed to start practice a week earlier than they would have been otherwise, but they have to give the players seven days off during the season.
ECU is inviting family member from both 1970 teams to participate in the ceremonies. A friend of mine went to a game at ECU several years ago and took a picture of the memorial plaque at the stadium.
Marshall also has a home game on November 14 this year. No doubt, the fountain ceremony and other events will be packed with people to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the airplane crash. I hope the place is packed that day.
