Hi there

A friend and i have just got onto an exchange program with Marshall university for next year.

We are from Cambridge (UK) and aged 26 and 29. We have been looking for accomodation online just to get an idea of prices etc ( as we both are too old to be sharing rooms in halls). We have been looking at both Huntington and Charleston as we would like to live somewhere that has a reasonable nightlife and stuff going on. Any info from people in their mid to late 20`s living in and around huntington and Charleston would be good!

If anyone could recommend an area to live and agents/ web sites to check out that would be great!

We will also be looking to get a car as soon as we get there so used car dealers info would also be great.

Many thanks

Katie

This site lists a lot of apartment options for Huntington.

http://www.college-apartments.org/marshall.html

Also, many college students live in the Courtyard apartments, which are very close to campus. I would check these out first.

There are also houses close by for rent, but many aren't listed online.

If you are going to Marshall then Huntington would be the place to stay. Staying in Huntington would keep you close to school but also close to a lot of the entertainment going on downtown. Huntington hosts several festivals throughout the year and there are frequently various concerts and other happenings going on. Some good areas to consider when looking for housing are the Ritter Park area, the Southeast Hills and Walnut Hills areas and anything you could find in the heart of dowtown between 3rd and 6th avenues. Some good websites to visit http://www.greaterhuntington.com/default.asp http://www.cityofhuntington.com/top.html
These sites should answer most of your questions through various links but if you have any other questions, feel free to
PM me. Hope this helps.
Tim

Default re

There are also affordable places to live in Barboursville, which is a nice suburb of Huntington and not a bad drive at all to Marshall. I went to Marshall and had many friends who lived in Barboursville. However, the nightlife that you'll find around the area is in Huntington. I graduated from Marshall nursing school and had a very good experience there. I hope you'll have the same.

Default Long Commute

I doubt you'd want to live in the Charleston area, it's probably an hour each way to Huntington, which could get old really quick.

Marshall has several graduate schools, so there are probably a lot of off-campus apartments that cater to the "older" student.

Also, at most Universities the Housing Office will have listings for off-campus living areas.

If you have a chance, see the movie "We Are Marshall" before you come.

Regards,
Snorpus
