Create West Virginia is a recently formed group that is looking to make a change in WV by focusing on the creative aspects of our communities in an attempt to diversify the state and make things better. They've had 2 conferences thus far and the one this year in Huntington will be the 3rd. There are also several smaller Create groups based in the communities throughout the state like the Create Huntington group. I've been involved with Create Huntington and want to encourage people to look into this opportunity. There's a lot to learn from these groups and a lot of positive energy that comes from them. Here's the info.

Their goal is to diversify by encouraging the creative elements in the community like art, theater, music, etc. Their approach is to do this by empowering the people rather than having them wait for the government to do things for them. A good example of this is the Create Huntington Chat N Chew meetings. Around 40-50 people gather every Thursday to talk about ways to improve the community. Currently projects are going on to start an art gallery where artisits and photographers can display and sell their work, making the live music scene even better than it already is, promoting the city and the events going on here better, creating a dog park, and others. The hope is that this will then make the communities more attractive to businesses both large and small while improving the quality of life for current residents at the same time. Here are some links to some of the things that have come out of Create Huntington so far:

West Virginia is the most diverse of all the states....don't think so...Let me mention some of the groups...Cherokee, Shawnee, Mingo and Delaware, French, English, Irish, Scots, Germans, Dutch, African, Polish, Checzs, Italians, Russians, Cubans, Puerto Ricans, Mexicans, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indians and others...think about it?

This is a MoJo funded plot to reduce our heritage and legacy as Hillbillies...It offends him...and it should!

How does that make WV more diverse than other states? Many other states populations Foreign ancestory and Native Americans.

WV has a lack of first generation immigrants.

And FYI this has nothing to do with race or ethnic heritage. It's about creating more diversity in local offerings (parks, entertainment, recreation, etc.) and encouraging growth and more participation from the community. This is a much needed movement in this state and has nothing to do with erasing our heritage but rather embracing it and preserving it by being more active in shaping the future. Create Huntington has been great for this area.

Thanks for clearing that up TBailey. I understood that. But i think someone else misinterpreted that, and was beginning to steer this thread in the wrong direction.

It misses the real crux of the problem, which is the intense
tribalism that exists within the State. That's a major reason
we rank last in just about every measurement as a state...
every area is so busy fighting for a bigger piece of a little
pie that it is almost impossible to get the kind of cooperative
effort seen in other states. That said, Huntington is an
absolutely outstanding place to hold this conference. Maybe
it will help?
