West Virginia now has one confirmed death resulting from Swine Flu. The victim was a 51 year old male who worked as a nurse at St. Marys Hospital in Huntington.
He apparently had an underlying medical condition.
Everyone remember to wash your hands often for at least 20 seconds, carry hand sanitizer, and avoid people who appear sick and if you yourself are sick stay at home. It's really no reason to panic, I'm just hoping there isn't a huge outbreak on a campus or something since it apparently targets younger, seemingly healthy people. Marshall is offering free flu shots this year for full time students, and there are hand sanitizer pens available at several locations around campus.
... since it [the swine flu] apparently targets younger, seemingly healthy people.
It is thought that may be the case if the virus resembles a virus of an earlier time period (say the 1950s) for which older people have a residual immunity.

Flu shots that are currently available (I received mine last week) are for the normal, annually-occurring variety of flu. The vaccination for the swine flu has yet to be approved by the government.

Yes, I know they are two different strains. But for the regular flu all Marshall students can receive a free flu shot. They are still trying to produce enough vaccinations for the H1N1 virus.
I was told this evening that 2 Marion County schools have H1N1 and many kids are being kept home.
