And thank you all so much for all of the great suggestions and recipes. I'm looking forward to doing some sampling to see what I like.
Most just order tea and specify sweet or unsweet. Any time I've heard someone order "iced tea" is usually from up north or out west and are specifying that they don't want hot tea.

I have to order 1/2 sweet, 1/2 unsweet in most restaurants here, or it tastes like syrup.

For home, this is how I've always made it for my husband (who likes sweet tea). Put three large tea bags in a small pot of water and bring to low boil. Remove immediately from heat. Put 1 1/2 cups of sugar in a gallon pitcher...pour the hot tea on the sugar and stir until it dissolves into a simple sugar. Then, refill pot with tea bags and pour it into the pitcher....continue to do this until the pitcher is full, then stir. Refrigerate or your tea will go rancid.

One of my favorite teas is sun tea, though. You put your tea bags in a clear pitcher, fill with water and let steep in the sun until it gets to the darkness you like. Then add sugar.

I'm with you...I order 1/2 and 1/2 as well. Straight sweet tea is too much for me. I really like it at Humphrey's, they give you unsweet tea and a little mini pitcher of simple syrup. Then you can add it to whatever sweetness you like.

I've been there twice and the last time I was there and ordered tea I thought the little pitcher was cute.

I'm going to try the 1/2 and 1/2 thing at places to see if I can tell a difference.

Mmmm, Humphreys...

FSUfan - 'sun tea' has taken heat for creating a cesspool of bacterial growth (the temperature ~120 degrees provides great conditions for bad things).

My wife won't let me have sweet tea in restaurants.

So when going out to lunch during weekdays (without da wifezilla), I'll order one or two.

This thread inspired me to make some sweet tea! Turned out pretty good following Red Diamond's instructions. I used 1 cup of sugar for 2 quarts of tea.

Cracker Barrel is giving away old fashioned hand fans with a sweet tea recipe on them. I got two yesterday just outside N'ville. Hopefully, they will be collector's items when my g'daughters are adults.
