You're not here to see the tourist stuff, you're here to see if you should take this job. The city where you would live is a major consideration.

Make sure the company pays for your travel expenses for this interview even if you don't get the job. But based on what you told us, pardon me to say that this sounds like a Micky Mouse outfit and they were not very professional & courteous to you initially at all. Only after you told them about another job offer they got their arses off the stool. If this is how they treat you before they hire you, I can imagine how they will treat you once you become their employee.

One positive about Huntsville is that there are lots of companies here in Aerospace & Defense. If you work in this industry, the jobs outlook is still pretty good compare to the rest of country.
I want to rent a house, not buy. This is a defense contractor, job is dependent on the contract but it's incredible pay and experience. But I could have to move in a year. Because I dealt with one rude HR person, I'm not going to turn a job down based on that.

If you are looking to rent a house, I would focus on the Five Points area. Older houses, established neigbhorhood with character, relatively close to the arsenal, next door to downtown, really close to some nice trails, great area for walking, running, riding bikes...

A close second would be the Medical District, south of Governor's, north of Bob Wallace, east of the Parkway and west of California.
