lucky for them, they didn't have my father growing up... you learned to never mention being bored around him, unless you liked clearing rain gutters or raking!

It's really the whine of selfish people. Ask what your city (country) can do for you! pitifull... We have become the people John Kennedy asked us not to!

Yes, I get tired of hearing that there's nothing to do. I'm with skinem that bored people are boring people.

There's lots of stuff to do in Huntsville, but it's not going to come to you. For example, the Monte Sano Art Show was last weekend. It was $5 per carload for State park admission (but some people parked outside the park and walked in free). In addition to the usual hiking and playground activities, the Art Show had ~100 (a lot but I didn't count) tents filled with painting, pottery, sculpture, jewelry, &c. The band played 1800's folk music. Thousands of people enjoyed the show.

My point is that you can find live music, art, plays, concerts, lectures, &c almost every day. Don't like that? There are volunteer and interest groups who'd like to see you. Want more? My fun activities include attending City Council meetings or political functions like the GOP BBQ (Thursday September 23 from 5PM to 8PM at the Jaycees Building off Airport Rd = FREE).

Some of you may wonder if I've always been like this? Pretty much - in college I organized roadside trash cleanups - lots of fun. Co-sponsoring a cleanup with a sorority ensured a great turnout from the guys.

People these days are really bored. They think the only fun city is New York City. Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, LA, and other places are boring to a lot of people. If you take them out of the listed "boring" cities and place them in the country, they would have a stroke.

I knew somebody who lived on Manhattan and complained about having nothing to do. Seriously.

People who complain about nothing to do just have a lack of imagination.

I am perpetually sickened by an overall society that feels they must be *entertained* all the time. If all the books, hobbies, outdoor recreation, lifelong education and community involvement is not enough to keep you occupied beyond your daily responsibilities, you have access to theaters running a dozen movies, television with countless channels, the internet, and locally, a few live shows and other events for good measure.

Seriously, I think I've said this before on these forums, but to hear people say it, it's a wonder the whole human race did not drop dead of *boredom* prior to the 20th centruty.

I mean, hey, I have no problem with a person who wants to life in a place like NYC or LA if that is what they want, but you'll pay for it. It's a big, wonderful, endless world out there - and we live in a free country. No excuse to be bored, IMO.

IKR, and Huntsville isn't ALL that bad, if you think about it.

My nephew said the same thing about Atlanta.
