I have considered Publix, but it just seems so typical and I hoped to do something different. Every birthday party (and some weddings) that I have attended in the past few years has had a Publix cake. I am a bit tired of them.

I think because Publix is about the best store bought cake you can get. The buttercream frosting is good. Their cakes don't taste "store bought" I have had the Sam's cakes, they tend to taste strange to me, like not quality ingredients... the frosting just doesn't taste as good. I can't describe it. it taste like the frosting came from a can... The cakes are very popular though because they are huge and cheap. They're ok.

I think Costco cake actually tastes better than Publix - but your design choices are limited.

The Costco cakes were very good. Most all bakery frosting comes from cans - the 5-gallon kind.
You could always make your own!

Another thumb up for Publix's bakery. Our church ladies always order cakes from Publix for birthdays and special occasions, and I know these ladies are pretty critical about cakes.
