Google is planning a trial launch of a new fiber ISP service offering speeds up to 1 GB/s. Currently they are looking for markets to trial this service. I think it's about time Huntsville got some more options in broadband service. If you agree, then go to the link below to learn more and click on the Get Involved button to nominate Huntsville as a trial city. We should also urge our mayor and city officials to initiate a government request as well. Thanks.

That would be great. I'm sooo sick of Comcast's service, lousy support, and throttling.

On a side note, I live in Ashtynn Manor in South Huntsville and we have boxes in front of our homes that all of the cable and everything is run from. On the box it says a few thing and then fiber optic cable. Does this mean we already have fiber run to our house? Is anyone even doing that?

Huntsville would have a good chance of getting it.

Isn't google just a software company? Does the fiber optic infrastructure need to be already in-place? I know here in Atlanta some company built all these fiber optic lines and they have been sitting unused for 10 years now.

No thanks.

This comes out the same week as the Google/NSA alliance: ‘Don’t Be Evil,’ Meet ‘Spy on Everyone’: How the NSA Deal Could Kill Google | Danger Room | Wired.com

I'm not naive enough to think my current provider, Charter, isn't aligned with the NSA. I just am not loving this "Google" dominance.
