Well, no, Reactionary, I do not teach at Davis Hills anymore. But the teacher who gave me this information does teach there and while, yes, David Hills is "incident prone" most of those incidents are not what one would really consider violent. I mean there have been no shootings or stabbing, as have occured at some of North Alabama's "better" schools. She would also like to remind everyone that Davis Hills has made AYP for the last five out of six years, including the last 3 consective years.

Don't believe everything you read in the newspaper.

The sack lunch program is a pilot program and if "deemed successful" could be implemented in all middle schools in HCS.

Here is an example of the lunch: in a paper bag they get a bag of chips, an apple, a small bag of carrots, condiments (ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise), then they get a sandwich last week it was Mon - hot dogs, Tues - ham on white bun (cold), Wed- Peanut Butter on Wheat, Thurs - ham/cheese on wheat bun (cold), Fri - hamburgers, and, of course, milk.

According to my friend, most of the carrots and apples go in the trash and other than changing out the sandwich the lunch is basically the same each day.

Well while I was reading I was thinking to myself "well the carrots and apples go straight in the garbage and the kids suffer through the wheat bread and buns because they are hungry." I see you mentioned that is exactly what is happening at the end of your post. lol No big surprise there.

After reading through the recent posts, I think I see what the deal is here. This is one of those deals where the local school system received federal money that came along with a stipulation that it had to be used only for a specific purpose and in this case it appears to be another one of those moronic "we are going to make school lunches healthy" programs that always fail. It is sad that schools can't use the money where it is really needed: To hire and pay quality teachers a fair salary.

Why as a Floridian should I be forced to rebuild Tuscalooosa after those devasting tornadoes? Do you think Alabama can rebuild itself without Federal help? It isn't a liberal answer but a humane one.
You are right because feeding the hungry kids is somehow a "socialist" agenda?

How on earth would this program save time? Really?

And no, I don't like it. It is not the government's job to provide everyone's kids with two meals a day. Ugh.

Jimminy Christmas, the kids are at school, the school has a cafeteria. Just feed the kids and quit whining about taxes. Why do we have schools nickel and diming kids anyway? Put together a healthy menu and just serve it. Heck, maybe you can even teach some healthy eating habits.

My goodness there are some cheap *** people in this world.

Supposedly, the lunch program has turned out to be a failure and will be discontinued and back in the actual lunchroom with real hot lunches on Tuesday after fall break. Breakfast will continue to be served in the classrooms. If any of you saw the Did You Know on channel 31 today, the breakfast the kids actually receive is nowhere as nice and healthy as what was portrayed on this segment, according to teachers at the schools involved. Interesting how HCS paints a pretty picture on television to get people behind this program which Dr. Wardinski openly admitted on television was about getting money from the fed.

Well there is a shock. (sarcasm) lol
In a real world business environment, the moron behind this would get canned but we are talking about incompetent school administration here so its just business as usual.

The Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are to blame. We continue to pump manpower and $$$$$$$$$ into each country to improve their education systems, infrastructure (roads, highways, bridges, etc.) while neglecting the same back home in the United States.

If Iraq and Afghanistan are too move forward then they must step up themselves and fight for their freedom as our forefathers did in the 18th century. However, they're not stupid and they will continue to take our manpower and $$$$$$ as long as U.S. political and military leaders are willing to give them a free ride.

Wake up leaders and focus on fixing our problems at Home!!!!
