I've been having a health issue and didn't have a doctor b/c I recently moved to the area. I was given the name of a doctor that specializes in Internal Medicine by a friend and he came highly recommended. Long story short, I have been taking an antidepressant for 20 years and it has kept my depression in check. I have led a normal, productive life the past 20 years with absolutely no problems. When I filled out my health info I listed my antidepressant along with an over the counter med that I take. When the doctor entered the room I explained my symptoms to him, he asked me how long I had been on the antidepressant, I replied twenty years and he said, "I believe your problem is depression related." He then ordered blood work that took three weeks to come back and it was normal. Needless to say, I am still having the health issue and I know it isn't depression related. I know my body.

I am asking for the name of a doctor that will listen to what I am saying and not immediately jump to the conclusion that it's depression related b/c I am on an antidepressant. I will travel to Huntsville which I am told has excellent doctors. Thank you for any help you can provide.

I don't know if you wish to see another internist, but if so I'll suggest checking out Dr. Rami Hawari. He took over a family member's care when previous doctors had misdiagnosed a life threatening crisis. I was impressed by not only his abilities and manner, but also by his willingness to admit when additional expertise was needed. Some people's egos get in the way of doing the right thing, but that was not the case with him.

If you're not looking to see another internist and don't find appropriate care in N. AL, you might want to look into seeking care at UAB in Birmingham.

I went through a few doctors several years back in the Huntsville/Madison area and was underwhelmed with each that I tried. (some for as long as 3 or 4 yrs) There are other doctors there now so that may very well have changed. And, I've moved out of Huntsville now, however, I found a woman doctor in Decatur (I have to drive to get there, but it's worth it) about 14 yrs ago and unless one of us leaves or dies, I'm sticking with her. I had one of my regular appts last wk and believe it or not, the woman spent 40 minutes with me because I had some issues that I wanted to discuss with her. And that's not unusual with her. She listens. She's a general family physician and if something comes up beyond her scope, she will refer you to someone that can help you more (re: one time I needed a neurologist).
My mom lives in S. Hsv and she's been using her now for a few yrs too. So, if you don't find anyone more local that you're happy with, you might consider calling Dr. Kathy Sparacino in Decatur.
She's great. She even will sit and ask you if you have any questions, concerns, issues, etc.. anything you need to discuss.

Default Thank you

Thank you for the names of these doctors. Anyone else have a doctor that actually listens to you?

Dr. Christopher O'Halloran, Creekside Medical on Franklin Street, Huntsville. Listens, does what he can, but has no issue sending you to a specialist if your issues are beyond his expertise.

Dr. Phillip Roth on Cecil Ashburn is really great. I am not sure if he is taking new patients or not.

Dr Raynon Andrews on Jeff road for a family physician. Listens, and does not rush. Because he listens the wait is a bit long, but that's the trade off Last I heard was taking new patients. Website is: Welcome to Raynon A. Andrews, M.D.

If you happen to need an endocrinologist - I just saw the new one in town: Dr Dwaine Woods, and he also listens well and takes time with you. His practice is called "Diabetes and Endocrine Wellness Center" Website is: dewcenter.com

Dr Jenny Chapman. She does listen and takes her time with you. She brings her lap top in the office and discusses results or will look something up if you ask her.

Not sure why, but I have not recieved a call back from this Dr. office. Also their weekly hours are very slim...only 28 weekly hours. Off Friday, and either wednesday or thursday is only 8-12, 1.5 hour lunch....not knocking it...if they are that good, good for them....

Call the number to get the exact hours, the hours on the website are incorrect...
