Living near Madison County sewage pump stations? (Huntsville, Decatur: house, neighborhood)

Do any of you have experience with this? Do these stand alone pump stations stink only when they're serviced? How often are they serviced? Should it be a concern?

There is a pump station in the Coventry section of McMullen Cove (across Little Cove Road from the large part of the neighborhood). I'm wondering how that pump station might affect those living near it. Thanks for any info you've got!

Dunno about Huntsville, but our house is next to a small pumping station in Decatur.
I hear it kick on around 1:30 a.m. It's not tremendously noisy, but there is a hum. The utilities department checks on it almost every day, around 8 a.m. Sometimes I hear them banging on pipes over there.
Around 4 p.m. and very, very hot summer days, especially during a dry spell, there is a faint but distinct odor within around 20 feet.
