I just open my Home Owners' Insurance bill... and it went up by 20% from last year.

I think my bill is 'reasonable' but I wonder what is "reasonable" HOI cost? So let's share & compare.

I have a 3 yr old house, 3,000 sq ft. and I pay $600 for this coming year (was $500 last year) for the Home Owner's Insurance.

What do you pay?

I have a three year old house, 3,100 sq ft, and I paid $1082 last year.

With whom do you have your insurance? What deductible? How much liability? Huntsville, Madison, or County?

Marc

Marc,

I have HOI from AAA with $1,000 deductible. I am in the city of Madison. Coverage includes
  • dwelling (coverage exceeds purchased price),
  • other structures (10% of dwelling),
  • personal property (75% of dwelling),
  • Loss of Use (for up to 12 mos),
  • personal liability including defending lawsuits (per occurrence) ,
  • and medical payments (per person).
Compare to your premium, mine looks pretty reasonable. I wonder why such difference, considering we both live in the same city, same age house, and similar square footage?

Great thread! I've been wondering if I pay too much for home insurance...

I have a H05 policy (instead of the standard H03) from Amica with $1000 deductible. I live in Huntsville but have a Madison address. House is ~7 years old and 1570 sq ft.

A. Dwelling $178,000
B. Other Structures $17,800
C. Personal Property $133,500
D. Loss of Use $53,400
E. Personal Liability $300,000 Each Occurrence
F. Medical Payments to Others $5,000 Each Person

I paid a premium of $812 last year and $713 for current year.

45yo home for 100K
Full replacement cost
$1K deductible

I have car with them too for a discount.
