We still have direct deposits to Redstone Federal even after moving to Tn. The branch in Murfreesboro must be new; we moved from there in July and it wasn't open then (or we weren't aware). Good info!

We left Redstone a few years ago due to the fact that at the time they would hold deposits until later in the day.

For example, say you paid your mortgage on the 1st and you got paid on the 1st. There were many times that paycheck "came through" later in the day than the mortgage. Causing overdrafts sometimes. Dropped them once I realized what was going on.

Maybe they changed their policies since then, but don't plan on going back.

I've heard very good things about Redstone even though I do not have an account with them. I am seriously thinking of transferring to them. One thing I like about Redstone is that they are locally based whereas so many of the big banks are in Birmingham or out of state (Progress, I believe is local).

RSFCU is good, I have an account with them...

BUT, I have been a USAA member since 98, and LOVE THEM...I have everything through them, car loans, insurance (House and cars), mortgage....name it, I have it with them....

I LOVE their on-line banking, and unlike someone else said about holding a deposit....USAA NEVER has done that (to me anyway) and they usually deposit early....usually the day before...or as soon as your deposit get there....

ANYONE can join, you just won't get everything the military does....

I bank with RFCU mostly but I must say that I also love Alabama Credit Union. They have three branches in HSV. I think they are like RFCU and you can use any Co-Op Network's ATM for free. Alabama Credit Union is really nice because they are small and the people get to know you if you go in there often.

Been with Redstone Federal Credit Union roughly ... forever!
Frankly, I don't know why anyone would ever use a commercial bank. Commercial banks are businesses that exist to turn a profit. "Publicly traded" commercial banks are required by FTC regulations to do everything they can to increase their profit to their shareholders every 3 months!
There is nothing "wrong" with this after all they ARE businesses.
For this reason though, you are not considered a customer to be served - you are counted on a spread sheet as an asset to be tapped for cash. Thus all of the clever fees and fines.

Credit Unions on the other hand are NOT in the business to make money. They exist to help their members pool their resources to finance their homes, businesses, et ...

Sure they have fees for things like writing bad checks or missing a payment ... but their motivation is NOT increased quarterly profits.

Of course, credit union members already know this so I apologize for getting off on a tangent.

To answer the original question, YES. We have very good federal credit unions.
