Can anyone recommend a lawn care service for the Huntsville area?

Specifically looking for lawn care to revive a lawn -- soil test, aerating, fertilizing, seeding, weed control, etc. -- not someone to just mow the lawn.

Has anyone used the national chain TruGreen? They don't have the best reviews online and not sure about using their chemicals around pets.

The local affiliate of the other national chain -- Scotts Lawn Service -- has some good reviews online -- but they don't answer their phone or honor appointments to get an estimate for some reason.

Any suggestions?

Appreciate any help/info.

We have used Wayne's Environmental for over 5 years and we have been pleased with their service and results. We have two small dogs and what they put on our lawn has always been safe for them.

We also have pest control with them as well.

I would recommend one of two companies that I've seen really good results from in terms of weed control and lawn maintenance over the past four years. They are Turf Doctor (who I and several neighbors use) and Fairway Lawns (who several other neighbors use). My neighborhood HOA has used Waynes and Turf Pros or something similarly named to maintain neighborhood common areas and I've never been impressed with either company's weed control results.

I use Alabama Lawn Masters and they are top notch. They can cover anything that deals with landscaping too.

I also use Waynes and I have been happy with their service. They also do my Terimite contract, and termite pest control.

Around how much was it for getting your lawns de-weeded and grass fixed up?

I realize it depends on the condition and size of the lawn but I'm just curious.

I have about a .4 acre lot, and to do a complete treat it is around $70 every 6 weeks or so. However, Wayne's will come back out and retreat if you still have weeds pop up after their treatment. I have never had that, though.

My mother-in-law has used Wayne's and was very happy.

TruGreen has a high turnover rate and generally the workers don't like their job and often don't know how to do it. Killing the majority of the yard is one thing, seeing dead birds in it is another (I've seen this happen.)

One thing to note. If you have a massively weedy yard, expect any of these to kill off the majority of your yard, as it is weeds. I have an acre and sometimes debate if I'd like to pay to have it killed so the burmuda can grow...and the freaky 30x20 patch of zoysia the previous owner planted (which actually is mostly weed free.)
