I'm from Baltimore and fell in love with Huntsville on my 2 visits there and would like to move. I am a LPN. Can anyone tell me:

1. What are the overall job prospects for LPNs in HSV?

2. Would being a male limit my options?

Thanks in advance to all who reply

Try Huntsville Buzz. I follow them on Twitter and FB. They give out alot of job listings that are in the medical field.

Try applying here, Huntsville Hospital Health System - Employment

They are the largest hospital chain in the area. Also look into Home - Job Opportunities

There are also nursing homes, etc around the area. I don't think being a male will limit you. I definitely recommend NOT buying a house at first. Get an apartment with a 6 month lease. Make sure that you like the area before you put down roots. It's a lot easier to leave when lease is up than to try to sell home.

You are from Baltimore, and Huntsville can be a bit of a culture shock to you.

Been visiting Huntsville Hospital this past week - about 1/4 of the RNs I saw were male (RNs are tagged such).

Seems the tendency here for LPNs it that they are sheduled "when we need you." I'm not sure it's the same in Baltimore, but a joke here is that LPN stands for Low Pay Nurse. We have many nursing programs at the local community colleges and at our university, and Birmingham, 90 miles away (not that far in less populated areas like Alabama,) cranks out tons of people in the medical field.

I'm not sure there is a glut of medical personnel, I'm just presenting some extra info that didn't seem to show up.

One of the statement that appears in nearly every forum, for nearly every city here on CD, is "Don't move if you don't have a job or family to support you in the area." If you have enough money saved up, that can substitute.

That said, I don't think it's too difficult to find a job. Though my sister-in-law had to take an "underemployment" style job with the city school system as the school nurse, until the city schools eliminated school nurses.

(wow, I'm negative today. Haven't had a sip of coffee...need to fix that.)

Several of our school nurses are male. I don't think gender is a consideration.
