Had to pop in a this discussion... as a road geek I have always been interested in why my state - Kentucky - is one of the only eastern states to use traffic signals enclosed in black cases while everyone else uses yellow (usually metal) cases. Black traffic signals have mainly been used on the West Coast.

I have no idea why there is a difference in preference by DOTs.

Today, while driving around, I noted several versions ...
All yellow, all black, or yellow housings on a black plate ...

Oh well !

I don't care about the color of the traffic light housing....

....but I would appreciate if the showing color is obeyed, respectively not ignored !!

If Huntsville could just get consistent street signs. The backlit ones would be great, but just get all the same font, size and no stupid abreviations..I have yet to find M'eml Pkway on a map. Thanks aldot.
Directional signs in this high tech city is **** poor at best.

Depending on the road...both. great cities have a strong sense of design, especially in the details.
Huntsville is still struggling in this area.
