I love buying farm fresh vegetables from guys in beat up old trucks on the side of the road! Unfortunately, there don't seem to be many around Madison and west of Madison. Where are all the vegetable trucks with fresh tomatoes?

I don't have the time to go to a farmer's market on specific days. I like to pick them up on the way home from work.

They'll show-up soon enough. When the determinate tomato varieties come in there will be tomatoes aplenty.

if you are buying from the side of the road, you might as well go to a store.. the majority of the 'truck farms' are merely bringing up produce from the commercial market in Birmingham.

Unless you KNOW the farmer/farm or can find some evidence of it (most small farms are marketing heavily on Facebook) I'd save yourself the hassle and go to Kroger.. or Earthfare if you want to spend more

There ARE real farmers out there in trucks.. but 'catch as catch can' is not a smart marketing strategy these days and most of the producer/sellers are taking advantage of the farmer's markets in Madison/athens/meridianville/huntsville/decatur.

I'm just glad the 'real' tomatoes are coming in We do have growers trying to meet off season demand with hothouses, and doing it pretty well.. but there's nothing like a really real summer tomato!

I buy from an older black man & wife that parks his truck on the corner off Old Railroad Bed Road when you come into Harvest, next to the feed store.
Fresh and good products at a fair price.

Does anyone know where to find fresh Poi? I moved to Huntsville from Hawaii and I cannot find it anywhere in this area.

you might try the oriental markets.. but highly doubt there's any grown here for sale.. unless you offer to thin out the neighbors 'elephant ear' plants

or grow your own..PlantFiles: Detailed information on Elephant Ear, Taro Colocasia esculenta 'Black Magic'

be careful, can be dangerous if not cooked properly!

Thanks GentleVoice. I checked out the Asian market on Cecil Ashburn next to I heart sushi and they did not have Poi but I did find Tahini that I have not found elsewhere.
