This is highly subjective, of course, as each person has a different definition of what constitutes "four seasons." I'm pretty sure Huntsville and North Alabama have a fairly classic spring, summer (the most pronounced) and fall. What about winter? Does it get chilly enough to feel like a real winter, or is it just "winter lite" like southern AL, southern GA, northern FL, etc.?

Define 'real' winter...a cold (& I mean C O L D) few days with a dusting of snow, or weeks on end with snow & -50F below?

A cold few days with a dusting of snow. Not Fairbanks winter, by any means. That is an extreme example.

I haven't experienced a winter here, but have been told it's milder than Northern VA & very little snow

I experienced my first Huntsville winter this year and I thought it was freezing. Of course I just moved here from the hottest city in the country so anything below 70 is freezing to me. All I really remember was a little snow one day and the school districts seemed to freak out and go in panic mode, so I'm assuming snow is rare here.

judging by climate data from the last few years, daytime highs are in the upper 40s, 50s and low 60s, and nights are in the 30s and 40s.

A few times per winter it gets down to about 20, and a few times per winter the high will reach 70.

This last winter was pretty cold temperature wise and quite dry. We had a dusting or two that maybe lasted for 2 or 3 hours if we were lucky. That's pretty typical but we do have measurable snow here occasionally. I remember Christmas Day 2010 we had 2-4.5 inches on the ground (depending on where you were). Then a few weeks later on Jan 10th and 11th we had 8.9 inches fall in Huntsville. It's rare that we have that much but not unheard of.

I'm originally from New England and there is definitely not quite the sharp contrast of the seasonal changes like what I grew up with. Although, folks from down here think there is. There are 4 seasons but, the differences aren't as dramatic, it just sort of eases into the next phase. Autumn and spring are generally shorter here and summer is long. Winter can get cold and actually have some snow or... you could pass the entire winter without ever seeing a flake but have some warmer temps and rain. Winters can be very unpredictable here in my opinion. Summers.. hot..humid..hot. Yesterday, 92% humidity at my house and 0 rain.
