I love doing various DYI projects and the garage is the only place, but it's like an oven during the warm months. I was just curious if you have taken steps to cool your garage?

More insulation? Fans? Portable AC unit?

Because we have a Swamp Cooler, the air goes thru the whole house, and then into the garage.
I crack the door from the kitchen into garage just a bit.
It does keep it a bit cooler, not much but bearable.

With my current garage it gets beat down by the sun all day.

I have a big shop fan, my old non commercial one died cooling down and engine last month.

Big difference.

My new garage has a Pecan tree shading it and I open the side door to get the air flowing through. It's also insulated.

I would consider a portable unit, but I don't know if it would work very well. You'd have to exhaust the heat somewhere and hope it doesn't come back at you.

Having insulated doors has made a noticeable difference in my current garage. I may eventually do some sort of fresh air intake fan that pulls outside air through vents in the doors and exhausts it into the attic through a fire-resistant damper.

I'd love to find a reasonable solution as well. My man cave is directly above it abs tends to get unpleasantly hot.

I've seen people pull down the ceiling in the garage, have spray foam insulation sprayed in, and then have the ceiling re-sheetrocked. Its the only way to keep the heat from radiating up into your man room.

Agreed.

I don't see any other option for you.

Your problem is easy. Pull the ceiling spray in some closed cell foam. Redo it and then you will have a comfy room above.

I had the same issue a while back. I decided to open the garage door and man-up. You get used to it and it feels fantastic when you go inside. Better than the gym IMO.

I had my car windows tinted once by a guy who worked out of his garage. He had one of those big A/C ducts run along the ceiling and hook into the house duct. The garage was freezing but I can only imagine what his energy bill must be. All that cold air leaving once the door opens.
