So about a week before we closed on our house in Inspiration point, I called comcast to try and get service at the house. The nice lady on the phone said she had to put in a service availability request ticket. Two days later she called back and said service was available. I told her emphaticallys several times that the tap was two houses down and no cable had been sent from the tap to the house. She said that shouldn't be a problem.

So the service install technician comes out today and realizes there is no tap by my house. Gee, really? So now a work order has to be put in to put a tap near my house. Who knows how long that will take. Nothing like wasting 2 hours of paid time off to know what you already had known. Talking to the technician, he said that a work order should have been put in for the tap.

I went down to the office off of Max Luther and expressed my frustration. I probably would have been better off talking to them directly when transfering service. He indicated to me that a tap should have been put in before an install service tech scheduled to come in.

So for anyone buying new contruction might want to make sure that there is a tap near the house. This would probably apply for Knology/Wow as well.

One of Comcast's many problems is their layered service department...they will send out someone who will determine exactly what you already know and have told them before they actually send someone else out to fix the problem. The only way you can get them to actually do anything remotely close to what you want is to go into their Max Luther officer and raise hell. Not pleasant, but it works. Sort of. Sometimes.

Yes, setting up internet at a new construction is a pain. First they send a guy out to make sure your house exists. Then they send a guy out to run a cable from the sidewalk to the side of your house. Then they send a guy out to plug in a modem. Pretty ridiculous.

The Tap is 2 houses down. One house is just a lot, nothing. Then the next house. The tap sits on the other side of the driveway of this house. Maybe 200 feet? The problem is the guy said he couldn't run the line over from that tap because of the driveway.

That's a pretty lame excuse he is using that a driveway is keeping your house from being run.

Would you want a cable strung across your driveway? It probably would be pretty hard on the cable if it was being run over on a regular basis, too.

They have very capable tools that run the cable under a driveway. This should not even be an excuse.

The service installer most likely didn't have those tools. In order to bury that cable, all of the utilities need to be marked, etc. It isn't something that the installer is going to be able to do.

True, and that might be what they end up doing. BUT, thats the job of their subcontractor, not the service guy. All he's allowed to do at most is run a cable from the tap to the house, put a box on, fix up the outlets and verify service. At least thats what I'm gathering. Even at that, then he has to get a work order to bury/trench the line from the tap to the house.

In Florida, everything was just from the pole to the top of the house. Since all the utilities are buried, it makes it harder I think.
