They do still have the olive bar at the Moore's Mill store and the new store on 72. Those are the only two stores I visit. The store on 72 has a very nice deli area.

Oh ok. That's great. I remember walking by and mouth just watering uncontrollably. Good stuff.

Yep that was my take when I saw their headquarters were located in West Bridgewater, MA.

But the most recent BBB complaint is from Huntsville and is in line with what padmaster and I were trying to convey about the way they are transporting their items around (but not sure if they are discarding them or what).

Star Markets Company, Inc

Complaint: I have written four times with no reply. First the store claims they are open till 9 pm . They are never open that late. They choose whenever they feel like it. Maybe 8am,8:15am,anytime . Second it has been three months and they have refused to stock multiple items. I went in there and they had no lunch meat, no corn dogs, no ice cream, and many other items. Lastly they are selling food which will make you sick. They sell food way past the sell by date.
Desired Settlement: I would like my twenty dollars back for the food I ate that was way past the sell by date. If they refuse to stock I would like them to move out and stop stalling. I would also like a written apology.
Business Response: I called ******* ***** and left a message with my number. I am not sure which of our stores she is referring to. Since her mailing address is Alabama I was hoping to get more information from her.
I will more then glad to refund the $20.00 as soon as I am able to identify the store.

A totally different store and brand?

What I posted that you quoted lists their Nearest Location at:
702 Pratt Ave NE
Huntsville, AL 35801-3615

And that is the Star Market in Five Points so I am confused now.

Star Super Market's website states they are "locally owned and operated." That might be why the representative from Star Market (AKA Shaw's) was confused by the person contacting them from Alabama. That's also probably why I like shopping at Star Super Market - they have the local items that I'm looking for.

The person filing the complaint is way over the top.

1. There are no expiration dates on food.
2. Don't people check the sell by / best by dates of their food?
3. The person could have returned the product instead of consuming it.
4. What's the proof that it was purchased after the sell by date?
5. OK, asking for a refund is reasonable, but asking for the store to close?

If you don't like the store's business practices, don't shop there. Why get all up in arms about it?

Yeah, that person seems pretty credible

Good points. I had actually considered #2 when I read that complaint on the BBB website. Also it seems like the item(s) or total grocery bill would not have been exactly $20.00 so having a receipt from the person that filed that complaint would be appropriate too. But it is true (according to many posts in this thread) that the shelves were unusually empty and that they were apparently stalling since they quit paying rent at the Madison location and did not vacate the store Landlord files lawsuit against Star Market for unpaid rent, failure to vacate Madison store | AL.com I guess they were hoping to come up with the money at some point and stay there.

Oh well, I'm done with this topic. I guess if I covered it any more it would be like beating a dead horse.

It's been entertaining, but I think we were at pate a few pages ago.
