My wife and I found this great like grocer on Saturday (mom and pop feel, good prices, good quality) at the corner of Merdian and Pratt, which got me thinking that perhaps there is meat market equivalent. Any thoughts? We're up near the corner of Jeff and Douglass, so that side of town is preferred, but I work on south parkway, so something I could pick up on the way home from work would be doable. Anyone have a favorite place? Thinking beef, chicken, pork, seafood, etc.

One of the local stores here employs a couple of real butchers. I asked one of them about how it was handled. He said the beef and pork (including the ground meats) were done there from primals, but chicken and fish is all brought in as is except for the price sticker. The store would be too far from you, but if you ask you might find something similar. Most seafood has been frozen no matter what they may tell you. There were a couple places in Florida that sold fresh from local catches but that was unique. You also had to be aware that if there was red tide around you were best of eating meat for a bit instead of those lovely red snapper.

Good thoughts, harry. Much appreciated.

AU HSV, that looks like it could be exactly what we are looking for. We'll have to check it out soon and see what they offer. Thanks!

I mainly buy shrimp, but comparable to Publix and much fresher! I don't eat fish so I've never really scoped out their fish prices. They also have other things you can't find much of here....crawfish (on occasion), crab claws, etc.

Thank you!! I'll definitely check them out! I eat fish/seafood in any shape or form & while the grocery stores are okeyish, it nearly 95% frozen, color added & farmed...

What's the name of the place at Meridian and Pratt? I know there's a produce store there but wasn't aware of a meat store. I've been buying from Food Valu on Winchester but last weekend I bought from Rocket City Meats. I bought one of their box deals. 5 lbs wings, 10 lbs leg quarters, 2 lbs ground beef, and 3 lbs of thick cut pork chops for ~$30. They're nice folks and are always willing to talk for a while.

How are their prices? I grew up on the gulf coast so fresh seafood is something I miss a lot. When we do find it here it's almost expensive enough that I can afford to drive home and get it and haul it back.
