It is not the City of Athens official web site, it is site encouraging visitors of Athens so growth is mentioned on there!
I few years back, when it looked like my brother might be visiting I stopped by there to pick up a county map, you know the type that are sponsored by advertisers and handed out at motels? I believe I was charged something like $1.50 plus tax for it. It was all very pleasant, but somehow I never had a desire to go back. Can't think why...

Limestone is headed for serious problems if their economic development strategy isn't changed quickly.
What changes could be made quickly that would avoid these problems?

Outfits like Rand McNally that print maps decided to enforce their copyrights on the maps. They charge big bucks to use their maps. That's why those free maps aren't free anymore.

It won't happen "quickly", but a plan can be implemented quickly. For example, renewed focus on Economic Development, update the gas-tax structure that pays for infrastructure improvements, and utilize new technology that's available for road repair so that we save more money to spend on the infrastructure itself. Those are a few. There are several more that need to happen, too. It can be done, but it has to be worked on soon before we get too far behind.

Maybe it was because they charged you $1.50 plus tax for a map that could have been free? I have never been to the actual visitors center but the web site alone has a lot of helpful information.
