I have heard Huntsville is a part of TVA and electricity is very cheap. Is that correct.

Check out this website for water, electric, and natural gas rates -
http://www.hsvutil.org/rates/. They seem very reasonable - but then I'm from Southern CA where electricity is outrageously expensive.

OK, either I or someone else is REALLY messed up. From the Al.com site:

...The Tennessee Valley Authority board has approved increasing the utility chief executive's compensation by nearly a half million dollars.

...board members approved improving President and CEO Tom Kilgore's compensation from about $2.7 million to $3.27 million, effective with the next fiscal year.

...Kilgore's base salary of $600,000 has remained the same since he became CEO in 2006. He said after the meeting he would not decline the board's decision to raise it to $850,000.

The compensation is going to be increased by "nearly" $500,000
They do that by increasing it by .57 million - $570,000
And Kilgore's salary goes from 600K to 850K - $250,000

I think I see the problem why electric rates are increasing. These folks can't do basic math! Then again, it could be a typical ill-informed AP newsblurb.

Using my current bill from Athens Utilities, cost per KWH with all the taxes figured in is roughly 9.48 cents.

That figure is probably not out of line for top executives of comparably-sized companies, especially given the fact that compensation can't be partly in shares of stock.

Wonder how much board members are paid? I know it is not insignificant.
Also...although much of TVA lies in and serves Alabama, only 1 board member, to my knowledge, as been an Alabama resident.

Originally TVA headquarters were to have been in Muscle Shoals; however, nothing was ever done and TVA's HQ remains in Knoxville (with some offices in Chattanooga), near the Tennessee River's headwaters and away from much of its service area.

Points to ponder...

Your bill is irrelevant. Your bill is related to how much energy you use. What's cheap is the price ($/kWh) for the energy you use.

Huntsville is around a dime per kilowatt-hour.
