having the entire inside of our house painted? Not trim just walls. 2500 sq ft house. tallest ceilings are 10 ft. No really tall vaults or anything. no ceilings or trim...just walls.

walls are currently light and will be covered with another light neutral. i.e. no dark colors that would require primer or lots & lots of coats to cover.

I've always done my own painting, but don't have time with job & 3 kids. The husband has reached a point in his life where he's DONE with painting and doesn't want to. (he's not that great at it anyway )

Thanks for any feedback.

When I used to sell paint 10 years ago, most contractors were charging 400 dollars for two coats for an average room and 6-800 for large rooms. That was without painting trim. Trim was usually an extra 200 per room. This was with the homeowner paying for paint. Usually though it ends up being cheaper per room if you want your whole house done.

Just guessing, 2~3K depending on contractor and number of coats.

yes, it would be whole house. 4 BR, 2.5 BA, foyer, dining room, utility room, hallways, kitchen & breakfast area (not a lot of wall space, but PITA to cut in around all the windows, doors & cabinets).

So, $2k-3k? ouch seems like a lot for painting. then again, that's a lot of walls to paint at one time so I guess it's not out of line.

Sometimes you can find a slow contractor wanting to do it for less. Just call around and get quotes.

try calling your real estate agent. They always know what contractors get the job done right for a good price.

Let me know what you find.

I need 1400 painted, no trim, but taller ceilings in the middle and prime, then two coats.

If I get an est for $3K, I am going to do it myself.

Sometimes I forget we live in AL, that's really cheap - we paid well over twice that in VA for a 2100 sq ft town home!!

I just rented a 2100 sqft house. The new tenant looked at it before I had time to clean after the previous renters and she asked if she could clean and paint herself... I said umm, yeah.

To my surprise she had a friend of the family that paints on the side and he painted half the house in one day without any help. When I got to the house I saw the painter and he was sloshed and there was an empty bud light 12 pack in the garage. I thought oh boy and went into the house to inspect. He did an EXCELLENT job!

That reminds me of a joke:

A man walks into a bar and sits down and orders a beer. A lady of the evening approaches him and says "I'll do anything for $40." He thinks for a moment and then says "Paint my house."
